On the surface, Break seems a carefree character, never serious and always smiling, with a weak spot for all kinds of sweets and cakes. When he needs to be, however, Break can also be sinister and dangerous. Before, after losing his eye and for a short while after, he was a bitter and a angry person, never smiling. However, with time _&& through the kindness of Shelly, Sharon's mother, he began to open up. Some old wounds never heal, and the emotions from his past still linger as he becomes slightly depressed when he is reminded of it.He has sworn absolute loyalty to Shelly; promising not to die until he has fulfilled the Intention's wish. Break's true motive is to find the truth behind what happened 100 years ago. He hates Vincent with a passion. Break says very early on that he might not have another year left of his life, as the strain of his contract is slowly crippling his body. He is therefore eager to achieve his goals as quickly as possible, even taking extreme measures when necessary.He is very protective of Sharon. While he once said that he sees Sharon as a daughter, as Sharon matured with Break looking after her, Sheryl Rainsworth sees it more as a brother-sister relationship. He still looks after her and worries about Sharon even though she is already old enough to do things on her own.In the end, he is a middle aged man who has deluded himself into thinking he can do everything on his own. He is the first to meddle in _other's affairs, but never allows ^anyone to meddle with his own. It is said that he does not play well with others most of the time and people at pandora always complain about his attitude.

Kevin Regnard was born as a Child of Ill Omen close to ten years after the Tragedy of Sablier shook the country to its core. Born into a family of knights that had been dedicated to serving the Sinclair Family for centuries. As such, Kevin began serving under Lord Roman Sinclair at a very young age. Roman and the rest of his family absolutely abhorred the Four Great Dukedoms and the unconventional diplomatic immunity that they received from the state after the Tragedy; as did many other noble families at the time. This feeling of envy escalated as time went by, eventually transforming society into more of a battlefield as the noble families fought viciously to gain prominence.Kevin was twenty-four, and decidedly took Roman's youngest daughter out for the day to spend some time away from the family. Unfortunately, when Kevin returned with Roman's daughter, the two of them found that the entirety of the Sinclair Family had been slaughtered in their absence. Rumors circulated that thieves or an opposing noble family were behind the murder, but Kevin didn't care because he could only see how he'd failed to protect his master.While Roman's youngest daughter mourned the loss of her entire family, Kevin tried to figure out what action he should take. Still riddled with guilt, Kevin decided to visit Roman's grave site even though Roman's daughter begged him not to leave her, as she had nothing left without him. The guilt that surrounded Kevin while he visited Roman's grave soon attracted the attention of a Chain, Albus the White Knight. Albus accessed the Path and tore open the sky above Kevin, asking if Kevin wished to change the past. Albus manipulated Kevin's weakness and convinced him to form an Illegal Contract with him so they could work together to meet the Intention of the Abyss and ask her to change the past and prevent Kevin's mistake. Kevin complied, unaware of the consequence that came with his Illegal Contract with Albus.Every night after the formation of their Contract, Kevin and Albus would skulk through the streets of Reveil, attacking anyone they came across so that Albus could consume them and generate more power. Soon, Kevin and Albus would come to be known collectively as "The Red-Eyed Specter", because of Albus' red eyes that glowed in the shadows. As time dragged on, Kevin successfully managed to sacrifice one-hundred and sixteen souls to Albus before his Illegal Contractor's Incuse made its full revolution. The instant the Incuse was completed, Kevin was forcibly dragged with Albus into the depths of the Abyss, causing him to lose consciousness.When he awakened, he found himself with the Will of the Abyss. It is madness all around. Albus soon reveals himself to Alice, interrupting her talk with Kevin. Displeased by this, she kills Albus, and the room begins to rain blood. Alice then removes Kevin's left eye, gifting it to Cheshire. On the ground in pain, he watches the events unfold, taking in the madness that surrounds him. When Alice is once again upset, he calls out to her. Promising to grant her wish if she changed the past.Alice agrees, gifting Kevin a chain with the ability to destroy chains and he falls through the abyss once more where he is pushed 50 years into the future. He awakes at the gates of the Rainsworth Estate where he is found by little Sharon and Liam. He is taken in by the Rainsworth. Having learned the outcome of his wish, the family still having been killed. Only this time killed by the youngest daughter who fed them all to a chain before being dragged into the abyss herself.Bitter, heartbroken, and having lost the will to live, he lives isolated until Shelly slowly brings him around. He learns to ^laugh and find a new meaning. He changes his name to Xerxes Break and works as a servant for the Rainsworth. He aids Sheryl and works alongside her in Pandora while working to fulfil his promise to the Will of the abyss.

Magic Break has shown some magical ability. An example would be when Oz was possessed by Alice after they left the Abyss, Break set up a magic trap that kept Oz from moving while showing a magic circle on the floor.Swordsmanship Since he was formerly a knight, Break is also an excellent swordsman. He can easily defeat enemies without the use of his Chain. He deflected Fang's huge blade, given that he was blind and his sword was much smaller. He also stabbed Noise's hand and impaled her stomach.Chain Mad Hatter is Break's current chain. Mad Hatter resembles a giant top hat with flowery decorations, under which is one big eye. It has the power to reject and destroy the power of the Abyss and exists for the purpose of killing other Chains.Because Mad Hatter is his second contract, it is very dangerous to Break and strains the condition of his body. Even by using a little bit of Mad Hatter's power may leave his body in a critical state, making him cough up blood and almost unable to walk on his own. It is probably that this is also a consequence of his previous contract. As seen in Oz, an illegal contract can give the contractor extreme chest pain and creating a new contract only makes it worse.
